§ 74. Mr. Stratton Millsasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what action he is taking to counter propaganda being put out by the Irish Republican Army.
§ Mr. ChannonMy right hon. Friend is very conscious of the need to counter IRA propaganda and steps are being taken both in the United Kingdom and abroad to explain the policy of Her Majesty's Government and to correct misrepresentation derived from any source.
§ Mr. Kilfedderasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the number of murders known to have been committed by the Irish Republican Army for each of the past three years; and if he will give the separate figures where the victims have been members of the Army, the Ulster Defence Regiment, the police, the police reserve, and civilians. men, women and children.
§ Mr. David HowellIn view of the varied circumstances in which people have met their deaths since the outbreak of violence it is not possible to state how many murders are known to have been committed by the IRA. The following are the numbers of persons who have lost their lives as a result of terrorist activities since August, 1969. The civilian figures exclude persons who died whilst engaged in terrorist activities on behalf of the IRA and persons who were killed in the course of street disorders.
§ Mr. ChannonI would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given to his Question on 8th May.—[Vol. 836, c.292.]
