HC Deb 24 May 1972 vol 837 cc384-5W
69. Mr. James Johnson

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps he is taking to lessen pollution in the Humber Estuary.

Mr. Eldon Griffiths

This is primarily a matter for the three river authorities. Following my visit last month I have proposed to them a number of ways of further improving conditions in the estuary. My right hon. Friend has also approved a substantial increase in expenditure on works of sewerage and sewage disposal of which the Humber will have its due share. Legislation to control all discharges to estuaries will be introduced as soon as practicable.
