HC Deb 24 May 1972 vol 837 cc387-8W
Mr. J. P. W. Mallalieu

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received about the Grange Moor crossroads on the Huddersfield-Wakefield A642 road; what information has been supplied to him about recent accidents there; and whether he is in contact with the West Riding County Council on plans to make this crossroads less dangerous.

Mr. Eldon Griffiths

My right hon. Friend has received copies of representations made by Kirkburton Urban District Council to West Riding County Council, which is the highway authority for the roads which cross at Grange Moor. I understand that 15 accidents, including two fatalities, occurred there in the three-year period ending 29th February, 1972. West Riding proposes shortly to take measures to improve visibility at the crossroads. My right hon. Friend could not agree to its request for an advisory speed limit, because such limits are still experimental.
