Mr. Meacherasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will seek to repeal the Small Tenements Recovery Act, 1838, in order that local authority powers to obtain possession of their properties on application can if necessary be limited by magistrates in the equitable interest of the tenant.
§ Mr. AmeryI hope shortly to make an order repealing the Small Tenements Recovery Act, 1838. My purpose in repealing the Act is to require all local authorities in future to seek orders from the county court if they wish to evict tenants.
