Mr. Stratton Mills

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the total amount of rates outstanding as at the end of the financial year, April, 1972; and how this compares with the end of the financial year, April, 1971.

The estimated figure for the total amount of rates outstanding at the end of the financial year in April, 1972. was £1,150,000, compared with £500,000 at the end of the previous financial year.

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will state the total amount outstanding in rents due to the Northern Ireland Housing Executive up to the latest convenient date.

The total amount at present outstanding in rents due to the Northern Ireland Housing Executive is approximately £1 million.

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many persons in Northern Ireland were withholding payment of rent and rates to local authorities on 24th March, 1972, and 1st May, 1972, respectively.

Approximately 22,000 persons in Northern Ireland were withholding payment of rent including rates on 24th March, 1972, and this figure was substantially unchanged on 1st May, 1972.
