asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the total amount paid in rent allowance by his Department to pensioners and other recipients of supplementary benefit during the last three years in Scotland, England and Wales, respectively.

The amount paid out in rent allowances (or supplementary benefit if this was less than the amount allowed for rent in the assessment) during each of the past three years was:—
