HC Deb 09 May 1972 vol 836 c319W
80. Mr. Sydney Chapman

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he is satisfied with the progress being made to eradicate Dutch Elm Disease; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Mills

I have nothing to add to the reply I gave my hon. Friend the Member for Cannock (Mr. Cormack) on 27th April, except to say that it would be unrealistic to try to eradicate the disease, which has long been endemic in this country. Our object is to contain the present severe outbreak and this we are trying to do.—[Vol. 835, c.346.]
