Whether they will publish an estimate of the number of dwellings rented from private owners, and controlled tenancies, respectively, in England and Wales, at the end of 1971.
§ LORD SANDFORDThe number of private tenancies at the end of 1971 was about 3 million, of which nearly 2.5 million were unfurnished. The proportion of these which were controlled is not precisely known, but it is estimated that there are now about 1.1 million controlled tenancies. The analysis of the 1971 Census, due soon, will give up-to-date figures.
