§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Employment whether, in the light of the ending of the Chobham Farm dispute, he will now make a statement on all matters pertaining to the working of the Industrial Relations Act, with particular reference to the National Industrial Relations Court and its decisions.
§ Mr. William Hamiltonasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will produce a White Paper describing the operation and evaluating the effectiveness of the Industrial Relations Act to date.
§ Mr. Maurice MacmillanIt is much too early to judge the long-term effects of the Act, but there is already plenty of evidence that individual workers value its provisions and that management and unions are reviewing their policies and practices to see how they can be improved in the light of the Act and the code of practice. My right hon. Friend the Prime Minister and I discussed the operation of the Act with the TUC on 26th April and again on 4th July.
