HC Deb 04 July 1972 vol 840 cc59-60W
22. Mr. Michael McNair-Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will introduce a hearing test for all those about to start work in industrial surroundings where there are continuous or semi-continuous noise levels of more than 90 decibels.

Mr. Dudley Smith

No. Noise levels of more than 90 decibels, using the "A" weighted scale, have been found to exist in most industries. As I explained in the answer I gave to my hon. Friend on 6th June, I consider it more useful to direct the efforts of my Department to the limitation of exposure—[Vol. 838, c. 49–50.]
