HL Deb 08 February 1972 vol 327 cc1121-2WA
THE EARL OF LAUDERDALE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How much money was available for exhibitions under the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Department of Trade and Industry Votes respectively in the financial years 1970–71 and 1971–72; and whether they will publish a list of the exhibitions on which they spent sums in excess of £10,000, showing in each case the sum so spent or allocated.

THE MINISTER WITHOUT PORTFOLIO (LORD DRUMALBYN)

The total amount of money available for exhibitions under the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Vote in the financial year 1970–71 was £98,000, excluding exceptional expenditure of £975,000 for the completion of the United Kingdom Pavilion at the Osaka World Fair in 1970. The amount allocated under the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Vote for 1971–72 is £152,000. In the same two financial years, the amount of money made available for exhibitions under the Department of Trade and Industry's Vote was £4,393,000 and £4,824,000 respectively.

While it is not Her Majesty's Government's practice to publish details of expenditure on particular exhibitions, the number of events costing £10,000 or more which each Department has supported or is proposing to support is as follows:

1970–71 1970–72
Department of Trade & Industry 151 95
Foreign and Common wealth Office 4 2
