HC Deb 04 February 1972 vol 830 c226W
Mr. Cant

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what reactions he has had from industry in general and the motor industry in particular to the report of the committee on corrosion and protection; and what initiatives he proposes to take.

Mr. Ridley

Although the report has aroused much interest in industry and elsewhere, there has been no common expression of view about what should be done about the committee's recommendations, not only because the extent of the problem differs from industry to industry but also because the interests of manufacturers and users do not necessarily coincide. Most of the recommendations are for industry. Discussions with the motor industry on various aspects of the problem are proceeding. The Department is at present considering how best to focus attention on this problem.
