HC Deb 18 December 1972 vol 848 c304W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if, following the publication of the White Paper on Education, she will formulate policies for raising the status of teachers, in particular their salaries; and if she will make a statement.

Mrs. Thatcher

The White Paper envisages that more teachers will be graduates; that a graduate profession is the ultimate aim; and that there will be much better arrangements for induction and for in-service training. These developments must enhance the standing of the profession. Salary implications will be a matter for the Burnham Committees.
