HC Deb 18 December 1972 vol 848 cc261-3W
60. Sir G. Sinclair

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what are the figures for the export of live horses, cattle, sheep, and pigs for breeding and for other purposes to Belgium, Holland, Italy, West Germany and France for each of the last five years.

Sir G. Howe

Following is the information:

Mr. Tom Boardman

A detailed technical report has been submitted. From this it is clear that a mechanical failure which allowed air to enter the mains arose from a combination of unusual circumstances. The Southern Gas Board acted quickly to safeguard tie public, correct the failure, restore supply, and take the necessary steps to avoid such mishaps in future. What happened has already been fully explained to the Southern Gas Consultative Council, and I do not think it necessary to publish a more detailed report, which would be of largely technical nature.
