HC Deb 18 December 1972 vol 848 c263W
Mr. Elystan Morgan

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what information he has concerning the results of tests made for establishing the presence of gas and mineral deposits in Cardigan Bay in the last three years.

Mr. Tom Boardman

Since 1970, the Institute of Geological Sciences has carried out drilling operations in Cardigan Bay directed to a fundamental understanding of the geology of the area rather than gas and mineral prospects specifically. The drilling, undertaken in three summer periods, was confined to holes of a maximum depth of 100 metres. A report by the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth incorporating the results of the drilling is to be published by the Institute of Geological Sciences next year.
