§ Dr. Summerskillasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science why married women students have not had an increase in their grants since 1965.
§ Mr. St. John-StevasMany have received the same increases as other students. The 1965 rate has been retained at undergraduate level only where the wife, while taking a full-time course, is living at home with her husband who is not himself a full-time students or incapacitated and dependent upon her. In the case of post-graduate studentships, the equivalent rate was last increased in 1970. In allocating the additional funds available for student grants, the claims of married women have to be weighed against other claims.
