Mr. Hardy

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the names of the local authorities which have disposed of their water undertakings to private companies during the last two years.

Mr. Eldon Griffiths

Local authorities which have disposed of their water undertakings to private companies during the last two years are the Aldeburgh, Chelmsford and Lymington Borough Councils and the Leiston-Cum-Sizewell Urban District Council.

Mr. Hardy

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the names of those local authorities which were negotiating the sale of their water undertakings to private companies before 14th November.

The authorities were:

Watford BC; Epsom and Ewell BC; Tunbridge Wells BC; Chesham UDC; Brighton CBC; Worthing CBC; Mid-Cheshire Water Board.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the total price or prices paid by private companies for water undertakings purchased from local authorities during the last two years.

The East Anglian Water Company paid £12,000 for the

Water company Local authority water undertaking transferred Payment by company to authority in consideration of transfer
Folkestone and District Water Company. Dover Borough (part) £210,000 plus cost of latest capital works.
Essex Water Company Chelmsford Borough Not specified in Order. Sum to be agreed between company and authority.
East Anglian Water Company Aldeburgh Borough £12,000.
Leiston-Cum-Sizewell Urban District. £15,000.
West Hampshire Water Company Lymington Borough (part) £10,000 plus amount of outstanding loans and value of stores, plant and equipment.
