HL Deb 11 August 1972 vol 334 cc1581-2WA
LORD TREFGARNE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the present arrangements whereby aircraft operators can claim exemption from duty on fuel when de parting to Europe, Eire or the Channel Islands will be altered when we join the Common Market.

EARL JELLICOE

The relief from duty on fuel for aircraft proceeding on flights to destinations outside the United Kingdom will not be affected on our accession to the Comon Market. Any change which might subsequently be suggested in the context of proposals for the eventual harmonisation of Excise duties within the Common Market could become obligatory only if agreed unanimously by all member States, including of course ourselves.
