§ Mr. Neaveasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what has been the result of his review of regulations under the Petroleum Consolidation Act, 1928, concerning the carriage of potentially poisonous substances, including formaldehyde, by road; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. LaneMy right hon. Friend's Standing Advisory Committee on Dangerous Substances will be considering the exercise of controls over the conveyance by road of poisonous substances when it has completed its current work on compressed, liquefied and dissolved gases. Formaldehyde is not poisonous; it gives off a suffocating odour and irritates the mucous membranes, and has inflammable properties similar to those of kerosene. It is not generally regarded as an especially hazardous substances, and my right hon. Friend has no plans at present to control its conveyance by road.
