§ Mr. Roger Whiteasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what proposals he has for improving the criminal statistics.
§ Mr. R. CarrThe Departmental Committee on Criminal Statistics—the Perks Committee—which reported in 1967, made a number of recommendations for improving the criminal statistics. Full implementation of these recommendations would require additional expenditure and manpower which I do not believe would be justified at the present time. However, I accept the main recommendations in principle, and I hope to make a start on their implementation, beginning with the statistics of crimes of violence against the person, as and when the necessary resources can be made available.
