HC Deb 04 August 1972 vol 842 c224W
Mr. Beaney

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what is the total amount of financial aid given to private industry in the North-East Region under the Local Employment Act during the past five years; and how much additional employment is estimated to have been created as a result of this aid.

Mr. Anthony Grant

I regret that information is not readily available in the form requested. But since 1967–68 the value of assistance approved under the Local Employment Acts including Government factory building in Northumberland, Durham and the North Riding of Yorkshire, and the estimated employment associated with this assistance, have been as follows:

Total assistance offered £000's Estimated employment
1967–68 9,437 14,688
1968–69 12,963 21,558

1970–71 22,544 21,002
