HC Deb 04 August 1972 vol 842 cc224-5W
Dr. Vaughan

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a statement about the transfer of the Reading office of the Export Credits Guarantee Department, including the number of staff the office now employs and the arrangements that will be made if the Reading office is closed.

Mr. Noble

Following management studies which were endorsed by the independent review under Mr. D. G. Scholey, ECGD plans to regroup its regional organisation into fewer and stronger offices. Under this scheme the Department's Reading office will close in 1973 and its present burden be shared between strengthened London and Bristol offices. The present staff of 11 will, in the main, transfer to other ECGD offices. Two or three clerical staff will seek employment in other Government offices in Reading.
