HC Deb 01 August 1972 vol 842 cc73-4W
Mr. Alec Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what estimate he makes of the number of new jobs for men required in Wales each year in order to reduce Welsh male unemployment to the present Great Britain percentage by 1975, assuming the same level of immigration as in the past five years and no change in the activity rate.

Mr. Chichester-Clark

If there were 8,411 fewer unemployed males in the Principality the Welsh and Great Britain rates of unemployment would be the same. The need for new jobs depends also on prospective changes in the level disputes, and because of unemployment, respectively, since the Industrial Relations Act became law, to the latest available date.

Mr. Chichester-Clark

The Industrial Relations Act received the Royal Assent on 5th August, 1971.

Following is the information available:

of total employment as the result of some industries growing and others declining. A figure cannot be put on the extent of such changes.
