§ Mr. Eldon GriffithsSuch dumping may be caught by Section 19 of the Civic Amenities Act, 1967. Under that Act the maximum penalty for a first offence is £100 and for a subsequent offence £200 or imprisonment for up to three months or both. A circular was issued to local authorities in October, 1970, asking them to publicise the need for particular care in disposing of certain types of disused refrigerators, and also to assist the public in arrangements for disposal of such articles.
