Mr. Cockeram

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the total number of unemployed at the recent count; how many of these are in receipt of earnings-related unemployment benefit; how many receive fiat rate unemployment benefit only; how many receive supplementary benefit and unemployment benefit; how many receive supplementary benefit only; and how many are not in receipt of any unemployment or supplementary benefit.

The analysis of the most recent count is not complete. On 1st November, 1971, the figures were:

Total number wholly unemployed 860,000
Number of. unemployed persons receiving earnings-related supplement to unemployment benefit 164,000
Receiving flat-rate benefit only 198,000
Receiving flat-rate unemployment benefit and supplementary allowance 97,000
Receiving supplementary allowance only 224,000
Number of unemployed persons receiving neither unemployment benefit nor supplementary allowance 177,000
