HC Deb 11 April 1972 vol 834 cc163-4W
Q10. Mr. Adley

asked the Prime Minister when he next proposes to meet M. Pompidou.

Q11. Mr. Meacher

asked the Prime Minister when he next expects to meet President Pompidou for a discussion of defence issues.

The Prime Minister

I look forward to meeting President Pompidou at the European Summit Conference in Paris probably in the second half of October.

Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Prime Minister whether he will make a statement on his most recent discussions with President Pompidou; and to what extent such discussions included the proposals for a referendum on the question of Great Britain's entry into the European Economic Community.

The Prime Minister

I would refer to my reply earlier today to Questions by my hon. Friend the Member for Bolton, West (Mr. Redmond) and the hon. Members for Nuneaton (Mr. Leslie Huckfield) and Bolsover (Mr. Skinner). President Pompidou mentioned briefly his reasons for invoking the established French constitutional procedure of a re- ferendum, but this was not a matter for discussion between us.
