asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will state the figure of unemployed in Newark as a percentage of the labour force; and how this percentage relates to that in the intermediate areas subject to Her Majesty's Government grants and incentives.

At 13th March, 1972, the latest date for which information is available, in the area covered by the Newark employment exchange 1,373 people were registered as unemployed, including346 who were temporarily stopped, and the rate of unemployment was 69 per cent. At that date the rate of unemployment for the intermediate areas then in existence was 5.5 per cent.
