HC Deb 30 November 1971 vol 827 cc89-90W
Sir R. Thompson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department on what date the plans for the Croydon police headquarters were sent to the local planning authority; and what reply he has received.

Mr. Sharples

The numbers of hotel fires in England and Wales in 1970 and 1971 are not yet available. Before 1971, non-fatal casualties in hotel fires were included in a group which also covered clubs, boarding houses and restaurants. The relevant information for 1970 and the provisional figures for 1971 are as follows:

Mr. Sharples

Outline drawings and small models of two alternative schemes were discussed by the police architect with the planning department of the local authority last September. One of the schemes was preferred to the other. Detailed drawings of the preferred alternative are in course of preparation and will be formally submitted for approval early in the New Yeary.

I regret that the reply which I gave on 9th November to a Question by my hon. Friend gave the misleading impression that this formal stage had already been reached.
