Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many industrial development certificates have been issued in the past 16 months in Scotland ; and how many new jobs they are expected to create.

Sir J. Eden:

During the period July, 1970, to September, 1971, 246 industrial development certificates were issued for 12.7 million square feet. These were estimated by the applicants to give rise to 17,500 additional jobs when the projects were complete and fully manned. Figures for October are not yet available.
