Mr. William Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what has been the decline in employment in the paper and board industry in England and Wales, and Scotland, respectively, in the last 12 months; and how many jobs lost were male and how many female.

Provisional estimates indicate that the numbers employed in the paper and board industry in Great Britain declined from 92,300 in March, 1970, to 88,700 in March, 1971. Below is a table showing the corresponding changes in male and female employment. Separate estimates for Scotland and for England and Wales are available for June of each year only.
