HC Deb 25 May 1971 vol 818 c54W
43. Dr. David Owen

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he has yet reopened discussions with the British Medical Association on prescription charges for psychiatric patients.

Sir K. Joseph

I have discussed with representatives of the British Medical Association the exemption of the chronic sick from prescription charges. Psychiatric conditions were among those which I bore in mind. In the light of the discussion I have however accepted that there is no prospect of any extension of the arrangements being possible.
