Mr. William Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many cases have been heard by the National Insurance Commission for Wales during the last 12 months; and in how many of these cases was an oral hearing granted.

In the 12 months from 1st January, 1970 to 31st December, 1970, the latest period for which figures are available, the National Insurance Commissioner stationed in Wales dealt with 171 Welsh cases of which 22 were oral hearings; in addition the Commissioner dealt with 115 English cases, of which two were oral hearings.
