HC Deb 25 May 1971 vol 818 cc126-7W
Mr. Normanton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what studies have been made of the relative effectiveness of the braking systems on heavy commercial vehicles of 32-ton gross vehicle weight and those on light vans and passenger vehicles; and with what results.

Mr. Eldon Griffiths

None. The regulations require the same minimum braking efficiency, in terms of braking force related to weight, for all these classes of vehicle. With the lighter vehicles, braking force above the minimum is more readily obtainable.
