§ Mr. David Stoddartasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what action he intends to take, arising from the Report of the Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration, on the income tax affairs of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Farrow (paragraph 8) to ensure that departmental standing instructions are always carried out by all Inland Revenue Department staff concerned before raising assessments in respect of underpayment of tax.
§ Mr. Patrick JenkinMuch as I regret the errors in the case to which the hon. Member refers, it is not possible to ensure that departmental instructions are never overlooked.
