HC Deb 04 May 1971 vol 816 cc327-8W
Sir F. Maclean

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will give particulars of the radiation and contamination levels for milk, meat, fish, eggs, vegetation and seaweed, respectively, within a radius of 10 miles from the Hunterston peninsula before the construc- tion of the nuclear power station and at the present time, respectively.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

Regular monitoring has been carried out in the vicinity of the Hunterston nuclear power station since before its commissioning. This covers milk, the critical item in the food chain, from farms up to a radius of six miles from the station, and also fish, shellfish and seaweed from the seaward side of the station. The monitoring has shown no signficant changes in radioactive levels.
