HC Deb 19 March 1971 vol 813 cc410-1W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will give the number of wives, servants and diplomats who were, on 18th June, 1970, entitled to claim diplomatic immunity in the United Kingdom either wholly or in part; and how these figures compare with those for the latest most convenient stated date.

Mr. Kershaw

There are no figures available for the precise date of 18th June. As at 30th June, on which date a count was made, the total numbers of diplomats, wives and service staff were 4,116, 2,525 and 240 respectively.

At the end of February, 1971, the corresponding figures were 4,212, 2,475 and 261.
