Mr. Atkinson

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the estimated total cost of all newspaper advertising undertaken by all Government Departments and public corporations during the latest 12 months for which figures are available.

Mr. Higgins

The estimated total cost of advertising by Government Departments in the national newspapers during the 12 months ended 31st December, 1970, was £3,636,000. The Government are not responsible for advertising by public corporations.
