§ Mr. HigginsThe book values of overseas private direct investments—other than oil, banking and insurance—in the United Kingdom at the end of 1970 are provisionally estimated at some £3,350 million, an increase of about 350 per cent. over the corresponding figure for the end of 1958, which is estimated to have been around £750 million. Official estimates for other forms of foreign investment in the United Kingdom are available from end-1962 only and are given in Table 44 of the 1970 issue of the Balance of Payments "Pink Book". No comparable estimates are available from international sources in respect of the countries quoted.
