asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if, in view of the growing dissatisfaction with the operation of the not proven verdict in Scottish courts, he will introduce legislation to abolish this verdict; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

This is a question which the Thomson Committee on Criminal Procedure has under consideration, and it is proposed to await its report before deciding what action, if any, requires to be taken.
