HC Deb 16 March 1971 vol 813 c280W
Mr. Milne

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what communication he has received from Seaton Valley Urban District Council in regard to the hardship suffered by people living in the Shiremooe area due to the extra travel and cost necessitated by the formation of an integrated local office at Blyth for supplementary benefits; and what action he proposes to take on the matter.

Mr. Dean

In reply to a letter from the Council, my Regional Controller in Newcastle has explained why supplementary benefit business has been concentrated at Blyth. As most claimants are seen at home, there is little need for people living in Shiremoor to visit the office. However, inquiry facilities will be retained at Seaton Delaval for as long as necessary.
