asked the Secretary of State for Social Services why drug companies which are not members of the Association of British Pharmaceutical Industries are excluded from consultation on legislation affecting their businesses and do not receive documentation, regulations, or other information in connection with the Medicine Commission.

Section 129(6) of the Medicines Act, 1968 places on the Health and Agricultural Minister of the United Kingdom an obligation to consultsuch organisations as appear to them to be representative of interests likely to be substantially affected before making any regulations or order under the Act. Consultations are wide, including all organisations known to represent the interests of drug firms.
