HC Deb 16 March 1971 vol 813 cc288-9W
Mrs. Knight

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps he proposes to take to end the shortage of hearing aids for children in schools for the deaf in Birmingham, particulars of which he has been sent by the hon. Member for Birmingham, Edgbaston.

Mr. Alison

Deliveries of childrens' body-worn aids have improved significantly in recent months following pressure on the manufacturers. The full effect of this will not become apparent until the backlog of demand has been overtaken and this could not be achieved for some time. It remains important for education authorities to husband the available supplies with particular care.
