HC Deb 15 March 1971 vol 813 cc216-7W
Mr. Ron Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many persons are in receipt of retirement pensions in the Borough of Carlisle.

Mr. Dean

I regret that precise information is not available as the records for retirement pensioners are maintained centrally and not by local areas. However, on the assumption that the proportion of retirement pensioners to all persons over pension age does not differ markedly from the rest of Great Britain, it is estimated that the number in the Borough of Carlisle is about 9,000.
