HC Deb 11 March 1971 vol 813 cc151-2W
50. Mr. Edwin Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many new jobs have been created in the Yorkshire coalfield intermediate area over the last six months; how many jobs have been lost; and if he will make a statement on the new jobs to be created by 1972.

Mr. Dudley Smith

My Department, as was the case under the previous Administration, has no way of supplying a complete record of jobs provided and jobs lost. 8,800 jobs are reported to be in prospect in the Yorkshire coalfield intermediate area over the next four years in authorised new industrial buildings and existing buildings taken over by manufacturing firms. This figure does not include jobs which will arise from expansion by firms in their existing premises or new jobs in the service sector. It is not possible to say how many of the jobs reported to be in prospect will arise by 1972.
