HC Deb 11 March 1971 vol 813 cc153-4W
Mr. Wallace

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will state, to the latest available date, the average wage in Norfolk, the average wage in the South-East Region, and the national average wage, respectively.

Mr. Bryan

In industries covered by my Department's regular inquiry in October, 1970, the average weekly earnings of full-time manual men aged 21 and over were:

£
United Kingdom 28.05
South-East Region 29.05
East Anglia Region 25.90
Norfolk not available.
The results of the New Earnings Survey 1970 published in the January, 1971 issue of the Department's Gazette (pages 41 lo 44) included April, 1970 estimates for the standard sub-divisions of regions used for official statistics. I regret, however, that estimates for counties and other smaller areas within regions are not available from surveys made by my Department.
