HC Deb 10 March 1971 vol 813 c136W
Mr. Bishop

asked the Attorney-General if he will now review the posts in the Lord Chancellor's Office from which women are excluded, with a view to enabling women to become purse-bearers and train-bearers to the Lord Chancellor, Clerks to the Pensions Appeal Tribunal and the Land Tribunal, and Clerks to the Judges of the High Court.

The Attorney-General

There are no offices in the Lord Chancellor's Department from which women are excluded. There are obviously circumstances relating to the trainbearer's duties which would normally make it more convenient that the trainbearer to the Lord Chancellor should be a man. For the same reason Mrs. Justice Lane has a woman clerk.
