HC Deb 10 March 1971 vol 813 cc113-4W
78. Mr. Normanton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps he is taking, by way of preparation for Great Britain to join the European Economic Community, to ensure that regulations affecting road transport coincide with those currently, or prospectively, in force in the Community.

Mr. Peyton

Measures in force in the Community are taken into account when regulations are being considered here.

95. Mr. Moate

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what would be the position regarding the installation of tachographs in commercial vehicles on the basis that Great Britain were to join the European Economic Community.

Mr. Peyton

Tachographs would have to be fitted to most goods vehicles over 31 metric tons gross weight and to passenger vehicles with more than eight seats not engaged on regular runs.

Mr. Clark Hutchison

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what effect the signing of the Treaty of Rome and the resolutions and directives thereunder will have on railway accounting procedure generally and the payment of subsidies; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peyton

Some adaptation in detail would probably be required.
