HC Deb 10 March 1971 vol 813 c133W
Mr. Bishop

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what is his policy regarding the employment of disabled men and disabled women in the Civil Service; what percentage of each is employed; and if he will ensure there is no discrimination.

Mr. David Howell

The Government accepts in respect of all employment in the Civil Service the same obligation as is imposed by the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act, 1944 upon other employers. No separate records are maintained as between male and female disabled employees; but the percentage of registered disabled employees in Government Departments on 1st October, 1969 was 3.01 as compared with the national average of 2.4 per cent.: the figure for the 1st October, 1970, is not yet available, but as soon as it is, I will send it to the hon. Member.

There is no evidence of any discrimination.
