asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he now intends to introduce a Green Paper on proposals for a value-added tax.

This suggestion has not been overlooked, but I have no statement to make at this stage.

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what would be the rise in the cost of living as a result of the imposition of a value-added tax, at the rate currently required by the European Economic Community.

No such calculation has been made since there is as yet no common rate for the E.E.C.
