§ Mr. Greville Jannerasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether she will take steps to enable 47W local authorities to provide funds to encourage and enable students to engage in active social service work in the communities in which their colleges or universities are situated.
§ Mrs. ThatcherI welcome the initiative and efforts of students in the extensive voluntary work they increasingly undertake, but the question of local authority support for such activities is best considered in the larger context of community service by young adults.
